Visiting any church for the first time may seem intimidating, so here we've gathered some answers to a few basic questions you may have.

Where do I go?

Click here for directions and a map.

Unity does not have a parking lot. Please park on the streets surrounding the building. The sanctuary (church) part of the building is accessible from Oklahoma Avenue, at the East end of the block. The sanctuary can also be entered by way of the Herman Street entrance. This is also the wheelchair accessible entrance. If you need directions or assistance, please ask.

How should I dress?

The days when everybody "dresses up" to go to church are long gone. God doesn't care how you dress when you worship and neither do we. While some may feel that donning their finery is a way to show respect for God, others think that being comfortable puts them in the right frame of mind to worship. Both opinions are correct!

What do I do?

Come, worship, pray, share in the Lord's Supper (Communion), and sing!

What are you going to do to me?

We will warmly welcome you before the service but we will not make you stand up, or announce your name, or embarass you in any way. Visitor cards are located in the pews. Fill one out if you wish to be contacted at a later date. During the Lord's Prayer it is the custom at Unity that some of us join hands with our neighbors... if you are uncomfortable with this, just politely decline and we will understand. There is also a part of the service called "The Sharing of the Peace". At this time many will move about the church to shake hands and say "Peace" or "God's Peace". Others choose to remain in place, and both options are just fine with us.

The ushers will pass the plate during the offering, however we certainly do not expect or require visitors to make an offering.

What about my kids?

Unity welcomes children at our services. In fact, we have a special children's sermon during the service so the Pastor can directly talk to the kids. We do not have a "crying room" where we isolate our beloved little ones... we want them in the sanctuary with us! If you feel your child needs time to play or cry or just get away from the rest of us, there is ample room for parent and child to spread out into various areas of the church. Many parents of younger children choose to sit near the rear of the church, for easier access to the Narthex (lobby) areas and bathroom. WARNING! If you find your child is especially "rowdy" during the service, it is often the case that the cause is all the waving, smiling, gesturing, and funny-face-making being directed at your child by the "adults" in your immediate vicinity! Unity loves children!

Can I take communion?

If you are a baptized Christian, you are eligible and welcome to participate in this most-important part of the service. This includes children. Both wine and grape juice are served, according to your needs. Pastor will supply further instructions.
